Thanks Cynthia. The idea that I am broken and unworthy tends to permeate my quest for relationships of all kinds. It is certainly a new idea to think that I don’t have to be ‘fixed’ in order to
Find ‘the one’. Though ‘ the one’ idea seems kind of a destination perception rather than a journey. My challenge is to allow love into my life and not hold it too tightly out of fear of losing it. My current mindset seems to be Im not ready as you mentioned that perhaps love is only for those they have attained what seems to me to be an unattainable state of self awareness and clarity. I know for myself that in my journey I have thought myself less than others that seem to ‘ have it together ‘ so to speak. I need to let go of what I believe a good relationship is to allow something new to blossom. In that I suppose lies the self work, and believing that there are others at the same place as me on this path. Thankyou for your insight and permission to be open to love right where I am now.

Hi Alan,

Great to hear from you and I remember you and your lovely partner at the Hobart workshop. What a beautiful description of love just happening for you. In a pure form and as you say "your head was out of the way". What a joy to look forward to, this unexpected love!

Aged 76 I have never had children. I have just spent 4 days with a 5 month old boy and learnt something about love. I carried him on my chest, read him stories, pushed him in his pram and sang songs to him, most of them with words made up to tunes I knew. For days after this time I felt lighter, constantly replaying the movie in my head of my time with him. I was giving out my love to another human being who could only give love back. I was totally my playful authentic self. I cannot recall ever having felt like this. I have never had so much close time together with a baby this young before. So what was going on? What love hormones was I creating?
The father has been a friend of mine for over 30 years. I loved seeing him hand in hand with his partner stroll through weekend market stalls and my partner said she loved seeing me like this. I enjoyed being a step-Grandfather and seeing the parents totally trust me with their baby boy. That trust itself was a big emotional high!
Certainly there was lots of love in the air between us all. It was fabulous and I have another week of Grand-father play planned in a month's time.
For me it was a case of "giving love to be loved." My head was out of the way, I was totally "in the moment" "present", "grounded". While the time together was planned, I dropped instantly into "play" mode when I saw and rejoiced in their new born son with them. Nothing in my behaviour was planned. It came totally from whatever love I had experienced in my own youth.
   As you say, Cynthia:
"Truly loving oneself is a life-long up and down process of varied experiences and relationships, of risking self-expression and gaining awareness. It’s a hard-won authenticity and trust in one’s own values, gifts and integrity."
PS My partner and I took part in one of your one-day workshops held in Hobart many years ago.
